Songs Of Our Youth
By Dan Rustin
Copyright 1997 Dan Rustin
A lyric about how songs could influence relationships.

I was sitting in the barber (beauty) shop,
Examining the grey
When suddenly
It came to me
A time long passed away.

The radio was playing
That song we used to sing
And everybody sang along
The most amazing thing .

The songs of our youth,
The songs of our youth
So full of good intentions,
Simplicity and truth.
It was good to feel it once again
Immortality of youth.

But it wasn't for the wasted years
Or distant dreams I yearned,
had a sense
Of fraudulence
Of value not returned.

The comradeship of classmates,
The fellowship of friends
How time had stolen them away
And doesn't make amends.

The friends of our youth,
The friends of our youth
So full of good intentions,
Sincerity and truth.
It was good to feel it once again,
The companionship of youth.

Then I felt a pang of enmity
Which nearly turned to rage
For people who
Won't look at you
Because you're of an age.

That's when I thought about you
Who's been my friend so long
I went and bought this record here
So we could sing that song.

The songs of our youth
The songs of our youth
So full of good intentions,
Simplicity and truth.
It is good to feel it once again,
The companionship of youth.
