No Mourning
By Jessica Gail Lawrence
Copyright 2000 Jessica Gail Lawrence

A poem about the writer's thoughts of her mother who is in a nursing home.

The sun is
draped
in black
in a place
where
there is
no morning.

No mourners,
offer comfort.
No Rabbis
say Kaddish.

You are among
the unliving,
a wordless world,
around a table.

I bring you
flowers.

You do
not notice.

You are
buried
in darkness.

My heart
is buried
with you,
mom,
in a place
where there is
No mourning.
